To use WDS gem rating and purity control

Cubic zirconia (ZrO2) is a kind of popular synthetic gems, as substitute for gem diamond economy (figure 1).To stabilize the ZrO2Crystal, people often add calcium oxide (5 ~ 8 wt. %) and yttrium oxide (15 ~ 18 wt. %).In addition, other elements such as hafnium may also exist in small quantities.

Cubic zirconia EDS spectrum diagram (figure 2) shows a widening of the irregular Zr L peak, but the contribution of spectral line is not easy to distinguish between other elements.WDS spectra can be clearly resolved, by contrast, power line and all sorts of Zr L Y L energy line, even Hf M series energy line.Therefore, QUANTAX WDSHigh resolution capability, is an important tool to gem grade and purity control.
